Romeo’s Restaurant - Calamari, Ribs, and Teriyaki Chicken Bowl

🍽 Romeo’s Restaurant – Big Flavours, Uneven Service

Located in Duncan and rooted in Italian cuisine with Greek ownership, Romeo’s Restaurant has long been a staple for locals craving bold flavours and generous portions. On a recent early evening visit, we experienced both the highs and lows of dining out — outstanding food balanced against disappointing service.

🦑 The Calamari

Let’s start with a win. The calamari was everything you hope for — crispy, tender, and perfectly cooked. The accompanying house-made tzatziki was creamy, garlicky, and fresh — a shining example of Greek flavour done right. Calamari this good is rare, and Romeo’s nailed it.

🍖 The Ribs & Greek Salad

The rack of ribs was generously portioned and covered in a tangy BBQ sauce with just a touch of heat. While not quite “fall-off-the-bone” tender, the flavour made up for it. The Greek salad was also solid, with fresh vegetables and a classic vinaigrette — though we were a little surprised to find only two Kalamata olives in the bowl. A minor letdown for olive lovers.

🍜 The Teriyaki Chicken Bowl

My partner’s dish — a teriyaki chicken bowl — was a standout. Packed with tender chicken breast, crunchy stir-fried vegetables, and a glossy, flavorful sauce, it was balanced and hearty. The garlic toast on the side? Exactly as remembered: buttery, golden, and delicious.

🙁 The Service

Service began with promise. Our server was pleasant and took our order quickly. But after the food arrived, we were mostly ignored. Despite passing our table multiple times, she never checked in on us while helping nearby tables. It took four attempts to get her attention for a take-out box, and even then we had to ask twice more before receiving it.

⭐ Final Verdict

Romeo’s delivered where it counts most — the food. But the service missed the mark. While we’d still recommend this spot for the great dishes coming out of the kitchen, we’d caution diners to be prepared for spotty attention once you’re served.
